halfway through re-reading Mutants by Armand Marie Leroi which is a fab scholarly tome on human difference - makes you very respectful of the miracle that is every newborn baby!

Finished The Sugar House yesterday, and just finished Right as Rain today.  Yes, Jayne, I finally read one of George's books.  I enjoyed it very much.  I have no idea what I'll read next.  I do have Robert Parker's next Sunni Randall novel waiting, so probably that.

Norby, if you get the chance, stick with Pelecanos' Derek Strange - Hell To Pay is the second, which is very cool, and then the trilogy is completed with Soul Circus, which is stunning.
Better than all three, though, is Hard Revolution, which takes you back to 1960s, when Derek was a young beat cop. Top notch.

I was teasing a Jayne a little, she's a big fan of George.  I do intend to read more of the Strange books, I just have so freakin many to read Embarrassed  Plus school starts soon which seriously cuts into my free time Tongue

Oh don't you worry, I won't try to steal him from you.  Have you checked out Sandra's blog today?   She has a link to a video of George reading from the Night Gardener while Steve Wynn plays in the background.  It's pretty cool.

I have just started reading a new book of short stories. I bought it from the "Murder One" store in London and it is called "Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine Presents Fifty Years of Crime and Suspense" It is full of stories from great writers from Ed Mcbain to Sara Paretsky to Stephen Wasylyk. I am really looking forward to this as I often find new authors to read from short story compliations

Lovecraft.  Have to get it done so I can mail it to my mum, as promised.  She wanted something that would make real life look less surreal  Wink.

I wandered past my local book shop yesterday , and what should I find displayed in the front window , and on the counter ? Many copies of TBOLT !!! I ran inside and purchased a copy from the kindly manager ( who is a JC fan , hence the big display ) , ran outside , ripped the bag open and started to read . I had to stop shortly afterwards , the sight of a 40 year old man sitting on a bench in the middle of a Westfields shopping centre , with tears in his eyes is something the general public is not ready for . I don't think I need to tell you that I'm enjoying it Smiley Smiley

**SPOILER**

Well I've actually gotten around to starting TBOLT and first impressions are that it is a beautifully constructed novel. The first chapter really spoke to me, having gone through the death of my father when I was 10. It certainly struck a few cords describing the death of David's mother and the lead up to the funeral. I have to say that I buried myself in books at that time, just as David does. Well done JC in getting it spot on AGAIN!!!  Smiley
